Sustainability

The use of flexible plastics raises legitimate environmental concerns stemming from the very qualities that make them indispensable as packaging solutions: lightness, resilience, and resource-efficiency. Committed to addressing the industry’s inherent issues, SAKOS strives to contribute meaningfully to a circular plastics economy. Currently, its approach focuses on two areas:

  • By combining technical expertise with modern multilayer extrusion, SAKOS produces high-performance packaging with significant recycled contents, from certified post-industrial and post-consumer feedstocks (PIR & PCR). All the while, SAKOS maximises the recyclability of its own products by using monomaterial formulations wherever possible. Finally, the company’s zero-waste manufacturing initiative allows it to close the loop by recycling its own PE waste in-house.
  • SAKOS’s “OK COMPOST”-certified products (EN-13432) offer superior disposal routes for food, soil, and organic waste applications, which are unsuitable for mechanical recycling after contamination.

Besides these, SAKOS is constantly developing new ways to ensure a sustainable future for its products and operations, through dedicated research and investment programmes.
