Compostable Packaging & Bags
SAKOS compostable packaging is made from material certified OK compost to EN 13432. We produce compostable bags in our plant in Schimatari, Greece, for supermarkets, retailers, municipalities and distributors who want less plastic going to landfill.
Before choosing, it helps to know what “biodegradable” and “compostable” really mean, because the answer decides which bin the bag belongs in.
Biodegradable or compostable?
“Biodegradable” only says that a material will break down at some point, without saying how fast or under which conditions. EN 13432 is stricter: it requires the bag to break down in an industrial composting facility within a set time and without leaving harmful residues.
That is why we describe our bags as compostable to EN 13432. They are not guaranteed to break down in a home compost bin or in nature. Their right destination is the organic waste bin, where the municipality runs industrial composting.

Do compostable bags break down in nature?
Our bags are certified for industrial composting to EN 13432. They are not guaranteed to break down in nature or in a home compost bin, so they should go in the organic waste bin.
